About me

Hello, I'm Ryota Suematsu of D-GATE.

My work in the automotive industry has covered:

  • Vehicle service
  • Building tuned and race vehicles
  • Aftermarket product planning and design
  • Part-number and fitment management
  • Factory coordination for production
  • Installation instructions
  • Brand launches
  • E-commerce sales

I did not begin my career by working only with manuals or product data.

I started by working directly on vehicles:

  • Inspecting them
  • Removing and installing parts
  • Diagnosing issues
  • Seeing how vehicles differ in practice

I later moved into aftermarket product development, where I also worked on questions such as:

  • Which products should be assigned to which vehicles
  • How part numbers should be assigned for different applications
  • What changes by model year or grade
  • What specifications need to be communicated to a factory
  • How product information should be explained to customers

Later, I launched my own automotive product brand.

That added the perspective of not only making products, but also selling them, communicating product information, and thinking from the customer's point of view.

Today, I apply that experience through D-GATE to:

  • Product manuals and technical illustrations
  • Japanese vehicle parts research
  • Japanese automotive product-data verification

01 | Starting with vehicle service

My automotive career began with dealership service and repair work.

The work involved:

  • Inspecting vehicles
  • Removing parts
  • Installing parts
  • Diagnosing problems
  • Understanding differences between vehicles

The part numbers, fitment information, installation information, manuals and product data that D-GATE works with today all eventually connect back to real vehicles and real components.

That hands-on experience became the foundation for the work I do today.

02 | Main mechanic at an HKS Performance Dealer

I later worked as the main mechanic at an HKS Performance Dealer.

For approximately seven years, I worked on building:

tuned cars, track cars, and race cars.

I also took part in events including HKS PREMIUM DAY.

The work involved more than servicing standard production vehicles.

I worked with vehicles that had changes to areas such as:

  • Engines
  • Intake and exhaust systems
  • Cooling systems
  • Suspension
  • Drivetrains

With tuned and race vehicles, even the same vehicle model can have very different specifications.

The parts used, installation methods and combinations can change what needs to be checked.

That experience taught me not to decide from a part number alone or a vehicle name alone.

I look at:

  • Which vehicle is involved
  • Which specification applies
  • How the part is used

The same approach is now used when D-GATE researches parts and fitment information.

03 | Aftermarket product planning and design at K-SPEC's GARAX brand

After working on tuned and race vehicles, I moved into aftermarket product planning and design with K-SPEC's GARAX brand.

I mainly worked on aftermarket products for minivans.

The work included:

  • Product specification planning
  • Part-number assignment
  • Vehicle fitment checks
  • Checking differences by model year and grade
  • Pre-production product checks
  • Factory coordination
  • Creating product information
  • Producing installation instructions

This meant working across the process from the initial product idea to the point where the product was ready to be sold.

Even with the same vehicle name, the applicable product can differ depending on:

  • Model code
  • Model year
  • Pre-facelift or post-facelift version
  • Grade
  • Left / right or front / rear position

The experience connects directly to D-GATE's current work in:

  • Documentation
  • Japanese parts research
  • Automotive product-data verification

04 | Involved in the launch of VALINO

During the same period, I was also involved in the launch of the VALINO tire brand.

This gave me experience with the early stages of bringing a new automotive brand and its products to market.

05 | Launching my own automotive product brand

I later launched my own automotive seat-cover brand.

I handled a broad range of work, including:

  • Product planning
  • Product specifications
  • Manufacturing and sourcing coordination
  • Pricing
  • E-commerce operations
  • Product-page creation
  • Image production and editing
  • Video editing
  • Order management
  • Customer inquiries
  • Sales

While my earlier work had mainly shown me the manufacturer's side of a product,

running my own brand also required me to think about:

  • How to explain the product clearly
  • What information customers need before they can buy
  • What information sellers need
  • Where customers are likely to become confused

I now apply that experience to D-GATE's services.

  • Vehicle service.
  • Building tuned and race vehicles.
  • Product planning and design.
  • Part-number assignment.
  • Vehicle fitment.
  • Factory coordination.
  • Manual and installation-instruction production.
  • Brand launches.
  • E-commerce.
  • Image and video production.

I have worked across many of the stages between developing an automotive product and selling it.

That experience affects how I approach D-GATE's work.

When producing a manual, I ask:

Will the person using this understand what to do?

When researching a part, I ask:

Which vehicle and specification does this part number actually apply to?

When checking product data, I ask:

Which real vehicle or real component does this record describe?

That is the practical perspective I bring to D-GATE.
